How Sensor Technology is Changing the Game

Digital signage leads the way businesses adapt by providing an eye-catching, versatile communication and messaging platform. Interactivity has always been a mainstay of digital screens, but the industry is rethinking the way viewers interact with screens by automating the process. Why should customers go through extra steps when you can seamlessly greet, guide, or advertise to them with the help of sensors directly integrated into the digital signage platform? Wallboard provides easy integrations with a wide range of sensors and is already working with partners like BrightSign, IgnitePrism Inc, and Ic-onic to provide unique solutions to end-users. Keep reading to learn how sensors can help elevate your digital messaging.

Interactive Physical Buttons

No access to a touch display? No problem. Wallboard’s IoT Sensor integration works with buttons to turn your basic screen into a dynamic, interactive display. Program the buttons with unique functions allowing the end-user to navigate through your content. Transition to the next/previous page in the content, select a product on the display, or interact with a button on the page. The possibilities are endless.

Detect Movement

Movement sensors can be used in a variety of different scenarios. A mirrored display near a sink could show dynamic handwashing messaging with a triggered countdown timer to ensure proper safety standards are met. Movement could trigger a greeting message, video ad, or wayfinding messaging to customers who just passed by the display.

The system works by having the movement sensors trigger specific content or content pages within Wallboard. Triggers can be set to go off both with motion or in the absence of motion. Cool Down periods are setup within Wallboard to ensure the sensor is not active for a predetermined period after the last trigger.

Measure Distance

With distance sensors, content can be programmed to play if a viewer is a certain distance away from the screen. A lobby screen could be set to a default screensaver but activate a company video if someone gets close enough. Distance sensors can also be used to promote social distancing within a store or office building. The ranges of this distance can be set within Wallboard, providing a unique customer experience depending on how far away they are from the screen.

Tie Products to Your Displays

Using I/O+ Relay Sensors or AI Cameras with your displays allow you to generate content tied to products when customers interact with merchandise. I/O ports can be tied to a specific product. When that product is selected, a triggered event is initiated, resulting in the product information showing up on the corresponding display.

AI Cameras can also be used to intelligently detect which products are missing from shelves and display that product’s information on nearby screens. This is just another way to utilize sensors to provide viewers with a more engaging way to shop. This use case could be implemented for use with a wide range of products across almost any industry.

Targeted Advertisements

Integrating an AI camera to your Wallboard-enabled device allows end-users to display targeted advertisements based on a viewer’s age or gender. Wallboard also creates detailed analytics for measuring audiences. Audience measurement ensures that the end-user has information available to them to get the most out of their signage. When combined with content directed specifically at the person viewing the screen, the digital signage platform can be fine-tuned to be as efficient as possible.

Safety Messaging

Since COVID-19 hit, businesses are trying to find ways to operate as safely as possible. Sensors that track store occupancy and viewer temperature support a safe work environment or shopping experience. Wallboard has partnered with hardware resellers such as Ic-onic to create smart entry kiosks with safety messaging and hand sanitizer dispensers to ensure visitors are following health and safety mandates. Wallboard is also working with BrightSign to provide occupancy and face mask detection sensor support.

This article only scratches the surface of Wallboard’s sensor integration capabilities. With the wide range of sensors that can be used and Wallboard’s compatibility with different media players, end-users are only limited by their needs and imagination. Sensors can be used to jump to trigger content, show and hide widgets, call APIs, change data sources, and much more.  For more information regarding Wallboard’s sensor platform, contact us today.
